Kerala all-woman network forays into higher education

The students could stay at TISS’s campus at Mumbai for one month and pursue their study and training as part of the programme. They would also get chance for doing one month internship at Kudumbashree’s district-level offices in the state.

Those who successfully complete the course would get the diploma certificate of TISS.

The thesis, prepared by students as part of the programme, will be compiled and published as a book later.

The official said that one of the programme’s objectives was to mould a group of community researchers who can objectively evaluate and document various activities of the 17-year-old Kudumbashree.

TISS certificate would also help place Kudumbashree volunteers in good positions in the development field, the official said.

“The course is designed in the way of ensuring them jobs in academic and research institutions and in NGOs which are focusing in social research. They will also get good opportunities in Kudumbashree’s various documentation programmes and other projects,” Valsala Kumari said.

Encounter with Maoists after villager shot at

A fierce encounter was on between a joint team of CRPF-police personnel and heavily armed Maoists after they shot at a villager and abducted two others today in the forests of Bihar’s Nawada district, around 140 km from the state capital.

The encounter was going on in Budha Pahad jungle near Lavadih village after security forces reached there on getting information that the Maoists had shot at a villager and abducted two others, including a woman, Nawada Superintendent of Police Parvez Akhtar said

“The encounter is going on since morning. The security forces have seized a self loading rifle being used by Maoists.

The entire picture will be clear only after the encounter is over,” Akhtar said.

Police officials said the Maoists shot one Pappu Yadav of the village and abducted two others, including a woman, while several villagers were collecting firewood in the forest area.

The condition of Yadav is not yet clear, whether he is injured or dead, he said.

The Maoists later released the abducted woman.

Police said the extremists had banned the entry of villagers in the forests since June 20 as they were holding their sub-zonal meeting in the Budha Pahad forests. Continue Reading
